Beneath scratching the surface
I've just after doing an 11hour shift yesterday, then staying over at the client's house and going straight into a 15hr shift today. That's the majority of my week done!
This afternoon I was surprised to have a new member of staff shadowing me - having been away recently and not working with these particular clients for atleast 6 months I was surprised that such a should thing should happen.
Anyways as the evening set in so did fatigue and irritation as this stiff-upper-lipped gentleman continuiously asked detailed questions. I experienced negative emotions towards him but that was going against my new ethic, so in a 180degree turn I forced myself to smile and take a real interest in this man. He turned out to be a truly fascinating person.
Having spent much of his working life managing large corporations in Asia he lived quite the lifestyle that a rich banker would, owning a mansion in France, flats in London, Singapore and Edinburgh etc. Yet a few years ago he was caught up in a money laundering scandal with the wrong crowd, had a contract put on him and his spouse and lost most of what he had, except for his family who distanced themselves but did not give up on him. Mr X has since embarked on a 'mission' to pay back the world what he has taken ... he's spent time working in the local soup kitchen, has taken a training course specifically designed to help homeless people into employment and he's now doing support work. Incredible!
Life works in mysterious ways.
